Video game truck questions, answered
How a party actually runs: parking, power, supervision, the games, and what happens if the weather turns. After packages and pricing instead? That's on the game truck page.
Booking & payment
Dates, deposits and changes.
How do I book a video game truck party?
Everything happens on our booking page. Pick your package, choose a date and start time from the live calendar, add your details, and pay. The calendar only shows times that are genuinely open, so whatever you can select is yours. You'll get a confirmation email straight away with your date, time and everything we discussed.
Do I pay in full, or just a deposit?
Either. A deposit holds your date and the balance is due on party day, or you can pay the whole thing online when you book and have nothing left to think about. The exact amounts show on the booking form before you pay.
What's your cancellation and refund policy?
It's set out in our terms and conditions. If something's come up and you're not sure where you stand, call or email us before you do anything. We'd much rather move your party than cancel it.
Can I change my date or start time after booking?
Usually yes, as long as the new slot is free. Reply to your confirmation email or give us a call and we'll move it for you. The earlier you tell us the more options there are, particularly for weekends in spring and summer.
Before the party
The short list to sort out beforehand.
How much parking space does the truck need?
Roughly 30 to 32 feet, or about three car lengths, on a reasonably flat surface. A driveway, the street outside your house, or a parking lot all work.
We don't lower a ramp at the back, so you don't need clearance behind the trailer. Guests come in through the side door, so leave a bit of room along that side for kids to get in and out.
If parking is tight where you are, send us a photo of the spot before your date and we'll tell you whether it works.
Can you park in our driveway?
Yes, and plenty of parties run that way. It does mean your own cars are blocked in for the length of the party, so move anything you'll need before we arrive. If the driveway is on a slope or too short, the street is usually the easier option.
What power do you need on site?
A standard outdoor outlet is ideal and it's what we ask for first. If there isn't one within reach, or you're at a park, a school field or a community event, we bring our own generator and run off that. Either way it's handled, just tell us which when you book so we arrive set up for it.
What do I need to have ready?
Not much:
- A clear parking spot, about three car lengths
- An outdoor outlet if you have one
- Someone to point our driver to the right spot when we pull up
That's it. We bring the consoles, screens, games, seating and the staff.
What time do you arrive?
About 20 to 30 minutes before your start time, so we're levelled, powered up and ready the moment your party time begins. Your booked hours are all gaming time, not setup time.
On the day
How the party itself runs.
How many kids can play at once?
Up to 15 players at a time. In practice 10 to 12 is the sweet spot, because everyone gets a controller without waiting around. Bigger groups still work well, they just rotate more, and our Game Coach runs that so nobody gets left out.
Do I need to supervise, or do you handle it?
A Game Coach comes with every party and runs the whole thing: setting up games, sorting teams, swapping players in and out and keeping it moving. Parents usually take the chance to sit down. We do ask that children under 6 have an adult with them in the trailer.
Can the kids eat and drink inside the truck?
We ask that food and drinks stay outside. It keeps the seating and the controllers clean for your party and for the next one. Most families run it as gaming inside, cake and pizza outside, and the break works in your favour anyway.
Is the truck heated and air conditioned?
Yes, it's climate controlled year round. Cool in July, warm in January. It's the main reason winter birthdays work as well as summer ones.
What happens if it rains or snows?
The party goes ahead. Everything happens inside a fully enclosed, climate controlled trailer, so rain and snow don't stop play. Guests just move between the house and the trailer instead of standing around outside. We'll only ever call a party off for genuinely unsafe driving conditions, and if that happens we'll work out a new date with you.
The truck & games
What's inside, and who it suits.
What consoles and games do you have?
PlayStation 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, VR and racing setups, with a library of well over 100 games across multiple screens. The lineup covers everything from party games the whole room can play to sports, racing and platformers. If there's a particular game your birthday kid is set on, ask us before the date and we'll tell you whether we have it.
Is there wifi for online multiplayer?
The trailer has wifi for online play, subject to signal where your event is. Most of a party is played together in the same room anyway, which is the part kids remember, so a weak signal doesn't affect much.
What ages is the game truck good for?
It works from about 5 or 6 all the way up to adults, because the Game Coach picks games to suit the group in front of them. Younger kids get simple co-op party games; teenagers get the competitive ones; adult and corporate groups tend to end up on racing and sports titles. Under 6s are welcome with an adult along.
Can the party be somewhere other than a house?
Yes, and we do a lot of them. You'll need permission from whoever runs the site and a parking spot we can legally occupy. We bring our own power, so a field with no outlet is not a problem. For schools and municipalities we can provide insurance certificates on request.
Where we go
Travel, bigger events, and the inflatables question.
Which cities do you cover, and how is travel charged?
Toronto and right across the GTA, including North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa and further out to Barrie, Newmarket, Hamilton and Caledon. Travel is worked out by zone and the fee shows on the booking form as soon as you pick your city, so there's no guesswork.
Will you travel outside the GTA?
Often, yes. We regularly go beyond our standard zones for larger events and full-day bookings. If your city isn't listed on the booking form, get in touch with your date and location and we'll quote the travel for you.
How does booking work for a school, camp or company event?
Yes, and they're a big part of what we do. Fun fairs, graduations, PA days, camp activity days, staff appreciation days and family fun days all suit the trailer well. Those bookings are quoted individually rather than through the standard package pricing, so see our schools page or corporate page, or just call us.
Do you still rent bouncy castles and inflatables?
Not through Gamers Getaway. Inflatables are now handled by Jumbo Jumps, our sister company, which runs its own trucks, crews and booking system. Same owners, same standards. Plenty of families book both for one party, a game truck on the driveway and a castle on the lawn. There's more on our party rentals page.
Nothing matches that. Try a different word, or just ask us.
Still not sure about something?
Ask us. We'd rather answer it now than have you guess and find out on party day.
